During this past week I traveled back to Belize with a team of men. We spent our time in Belize working in partnership with a ministry called LOL. During our week, we weathered some intense heat and humidity. We began our week in the Toledo District (southern Belize). LOL is establishing an orphanage in this region and is currently building their mission house headquarters and initial orphanage housing.

LOL Orphanage
It is an exciting season for LOL. We had the honor of tearing down 1600 tree braces and forms that were in place for the poured concrete ceiling of the 2nd floor. A few of our team members also spent some time framing and installing some doors on the first floor. Our last project was pouring the concrete for the second set of stairs on the building. It was a fun, grueling, and rewarding couple days of work in the intense heat. The next morning we journeyed to Machakilha village. It is a village only accessible by foot. We hiked into the village in about three hours through thick and deep mud the whole way. It was fun! During our time at the village, the imchange team held a fishing clinic. Machakilha is a remote village–no electricity–no running water, etc. These precious people had never seen a fishing pole. Needless to say, it was an adventurous and hilarious afternoon of teaching the men of Machakilha what a fishing pole was and how to use it. One man, Alfredo, nearly mastered the concept as he caught himself dinner with 11 fish! It was great.

We also played soccer with the village men and boys. It was a wonderful time of playful exchange, tons of smiles, and unforgettable memories. We felt blessed to be a part of this moment. Also, imchange, through generous donors like you, gave a young man and his brother an education scholarship so they can attend high school. Unlike in the United States, high school in Belize is a tuition based schooling.

Radolfo received an education scholarship from imchange for one year of high school
It is nearly impossible for young people in the remote villages to come up with enough money to attend high school. A year of high school is approximately $500-$800 depending on the location, books, fees, uniform costs, lunch programs, etc. It was a real privilege to provide Radolfo and Mackenzie with a full year scholarship! Thanks to all of you that made that possible. It was a beautiful transaction. Our trip to Belize left us with breathtaking memories of the simplicity of life. We also enjoyed a day out in the Cayes snorkeling with sea turtles, dolphins, sharks, lobsters, rays, and various fish. We hope to return to Belize in the future and continue to bring joy and hope to a deserving people.
THANK YOU TO ALL OF YOU THAT DONATED, PRAYED, AND SUPPORTED OUR EFFORTS IN BELIZE. YOU ARE BRINGING A POSITIVE CHANGE. YOU ARE THE CHANGE.
